It's very true that green building is a process. When I talked with A/E/C professionals, the biggest barrier for them is that they're under so much pressure to deliver a project within budget that things like IDP etc are value engineered out.

One approach is for a firm that takes sustainability seriously to streamline systems like project workplans, product specs, etc so that delivering a green building becomes as much a part of the day to day as delivering the building the owner wants. That premise of streamlining systems and making delivery of sustainability projects easy is what's behind the SPI Green Firm Certification program, which recognizes LEED but approaches the problem through the lens of the firm rather than specific project. www.greenroundtable.org/certificationAaron Desatnikhttp://www.greenroundtable.orgnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2253255273965803452.post-84638969445598600152011-02-23T17:11:44.715-05:002011-02-23T17:11:44.715-05:00How do you listen to a building after a tornado, h...How do you listen to a building after a tornado, hurricane, flood, earthquake? Easy... on your hands and knees!

That comment makes no sense and is unnecessarily confrontational and sort of unfairly accusatory.

I actually like her analogy. Advocating for fine tuned building performance doesn't communicate in any way a lack of understanding or acknowledgment of the unfortunate conditions others face that might make the advice inappropriate.

People give advice on how to eat right and exercise without having to qualify that advice by saying, "unless you are already dead".Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2253255273965803452.post-59407925025968521522011-02-17T13:56:11.280-05:002011-02-17T13:56:11.280-05:00How do you listen to a building after a tornado, h...How do you listen to a building after a tornado, hurricane, flood, earthquake?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
